Cambridge Hotel, Huddersfield

Type: Hotel extension including 45 bedrooms, function/conference room, dining room and kitchen, plant room and car park.
Duration: 13 months.
Problems/obstacles/solutions: Ground investigations found mine workings which were not recorded with the coal board under the footprint of the building. These were overcome by soil nailing to the existing hotel and grout filling to the mines to stabilise the ground over a 5 week period costing £50K.
Cost: £1.5M. Tendered contract.
Specification: Built to high specification designed by the architect and client.
